Jerry Jarrett has passed away at the age of 80 years old.
Earlier today, wrestler and manager Dutch Mantell broke the news. There is no cause of death known at this time, but it is said that he was surrounded by family and friends.
Jerry Jarrett served as a referee and a wrestler, was the founder of Continental Wrestling in 1977 which would eventually merge with World Class to become the USWA. He was a key figure for the World Wrestling Federation and World Championship Wrestling, and at one time, was in a backup role for Vince McMahon during the infamous Steroid trial, where Jarrett would have assumed control of the WWF should Vince have gone to prison.
Jarrett would later team up with his son Jeff to create NWA:TNA in 2002, which would transition to Impact Wrestling which is still in business today long after Jarrett sold his shares to Panda Energy.
We will have more on the life of Jerry Jarrett this weekend on Sunday Night’s Main Event. We would like to pass our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Jerry Jarrett.
